Leeds chess club

Established 1834

ABOUT US

Leeds Chess Club was founded in 1834, we are one of the longest running chess clubs in the country. Unfortunately Leeds Chess Club had a bit of a decrease in members over the past decade or so, since taking over the club a few years ago i've been getting back the respect that we deserve. When I took over Leeds Chess Club,  I entered a 3 man team into the Leeds Mini League as we only had 3 members but I'm slowly increasing the club and we now have around 18 players and are still increasing. We now have two teams but i'm hoping to increase even more next year! I'd love to be able to enter a team into the Yorkshire League!

We are looking for players of any standard from absolute beginner to master, anyone who has a passion for chess or is willing to learn about the game is very welcome to join us. At Leeds Chess Club you can expect to get plenty of chess, we also meet up for analysis, training, practice matches and tournaments around Yorkshire. We have a library of chess books and also offer chess coaching to the beginner and intermediate player.

If you are interested in joining Leeds Chess Club or just fancy coming for the odd game, you can contact me, Tony Ibbitson anytime on my mobile 07787613083. If you are unable to get through to me at the time then please don't hesitate to ring me again at a later time. You can also email me on tony@leedschessclub.org

We play our home games at The North Leeds Working Men's Club on Wednesdays, the venue is located on Lincoln Green Road. It's currently the end of the season so we meet here every week, from around 7.30pm until late. We also meet up on Saturdays from around 4pm but you'll have to contact me as these times do vary.

How to get there,

By car: Come off the A64 at the Woodpecker Junction and head towards St James' Hospital. Turn left at the first crossroads, we are located just on the corner on Lincoln Green Road. If you're looking for directions from where you are, the poscode is LS9 7SR, if you go to www.route.rac.co.uk, enter your postcode as travelling from then enter LS9 7SR as travelling to, you'll get an accurate route that will direct you to the chess club. You can always send me an email asking for directions and I will help you out. If you don't have internet access, that's not a problem, just give me a call on 07875553775 and I'll direct you.

By bus: You can get a number 4 bus from Leeds City Centre and it stops just after The North Leeds Working Men's Club.
