LEEDS CHESS CLUB LADDER

To make the non-match nights and Saturday meetings more interesting and competitive, I have decided to start a ladder tourney. This will essentially be able to start from 10 July 2010 if all goes well and I can manage to get everything organised in time. It will also be something to do now that the season is over. If the event is successful then it may continue over the years, the competition is free to enter and all ladder games shall be ungraded.

The ladder has not kicked off yet but this is how the ladder will start, Bernie Hare (formerly of Leeds Chess Club) gave me the original club ladder. Unfortunately it only has 13 rungs which means that players will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.

Once I have 13 entrants, I will randomly select players to determine where they will sit on the ladder.

I am still accepting entrants, if you would like to enter the ladder then please click here and submit your details to me.

Below you find find the rules, this is only a draft list at the moment. Please put forward any suggestions or problems that you may have and I will look into changing the format to please as many as I can.

Ladder Rules:

  • The 1st Leeds Chess Club Ladder will run from April but I have not yet decided on an end date as of yet.
  • There will hopefully be a trophy for the overall ladder champion although to be eligible for the trophy, a minimum number of games needs to be set otherwise the highest graded player needs to play zero games in order to finish 1st.
  • Colours shall be determined by the toss of a coin.
  • Games will be played with just one hour on each clock.
  • If you choose to play in the ladder on a Wednesday then the game shall start no later than 8pm.
  • The ladder will initially be ranked by 2008 ECF grades and up to date provisional grades calculated by me.
  • A player may challenge seven spots above his/her current rank.
  • When a higher ranked player beats a lower ranked player, standings remain unchanged.
  • If a B player beats an A player in the ladder, player B will take player A's rank and player A will drop one rank.
  • In the case of a draw, each player will maintain their original position.
  • Results shall be recorded on the ladder printout so that I (Anthony Ibbitson) can take it home and amend on the website.
  • Games shall also be recorded so that they can be put on the website for other members to view.
  • If someone new joins, they can challenge anyone on the ladder for their first game. If they win they take their opponents position and everyone below moves down.
  • Ladder challenges at Leeds Chess Club can be arranged in advance but challenges can also be made on the night.
