Sunday 15th November 2009:
This year I am introducing a "Most improved player of the year award 2010" but players will only be eligible for this award if they have a current YCA grade and have played 10 games or more by the end of the season. Details of this can be found on the Team News page after clicking on the LCC Stats 2009/10 link. On there I have now added a number at the side of each eligible player's perf grade, the player with the highest plus score is the current leader.

Last night Leeds managed to win their 1st round mini league match quite comfortably, 3.5-1.5 in fact! Unfortunately Leeds lost 0.5-5.5 to Alwoodley 6 in the 1st round of the rapidplay league. Details of both matches can now be found on the team news page. Let's see if Leeds can win the mini league this year.
The next match on Tuesday is Leeds 175 Vs Bradford Destroyers, Leeds 175 are playing to maintain their 100% record for the new season. Wednesday is a big one, Leeds B are at home to Alwoodley C, these are probably the strongest two sides in the 2nd division so it's going to be a tough match. Leeds A have an even tougher job away to Copperworks A, who are one of the strongest sides in division one - if not the strongest! Leeds league newbies Leeds C are away to Pudsey B, this will be an interesting clash, if Leeds C are on form then they have a good chance of sneaking this one. The results from these matches shall be posted up on team news this Thursday.
Unfortunately Stuart Johnson (of Alwoodley Chess Club) has resigned from the job of publishing match results and league tables, nobody has replaced him yet which means there will be no league tables posted up on my STATS link for the time being. I can do everything else as usual but since I have no idea of any other club's results, I cannot produce any kind of league table. I can't even tell you who is on top of the league. Of course somebody from the Leeds chess association will have to take up this role if chess in Leeds is to survive, I will have a word with the LCA and let you know as soon as I know what is happening.
As you probably know, Leeds Chess Club won the English Chess Federation website of the year award this year, there will be a presentation with me and someone from the ECF. Hopefully this will be held at Leeds Chess Club but I'm not entirely sure yet, again, as soon as I know, I will let you guys know.
Thanks to those who've been coming along to the Saturday meetings, chess on Saturdays has been picking up, using almost every chess set in the bag! This is great news because it means there's plenty of chess and lots of variety. Friendly chess on a Saturday is one of many things that makes Leeds Chess Club stand out from the rest, keep up the good work!
